Inappropriate clothing in the workplace

As we have mentioned in earlier posts, your appearance is an important part of your non-verbal communication in the workplace and there are also benefits to dressing for success in the work environment. Those are basically the dos. Today, however, we are going to go in the other direction: the don'ts. In short, you want avoid like the plague anything that does not translate into professionalism ( DiGiacomo, n.d. ).

Ben Rosett Earlier, we have talked about the importance of non-verbal communication and why it matters in almost every setting, including the workplace. You want to let your colleagues and co-workers know that you take your job seriously and are well suited to perform it (no pun intended). I know, I know, your skills, knowledge and abilities are not necessarily reflected on the way you dress, but on your results instead, right? Right? Well, kind of.

Hi there!!! Have you ever noticed that the use of ties is decaying more and more? this could be a holistic trend towards a new no-dress-code businesses or fresh and casual attires. We are still far behind that point but casual Fridays are a glimpse into how the future is going to look like; lets just don’t go ahead of ourselves yet. Casual friday is becoming a thing now, it’s a trend that it’s going deeper into our offices by the day. The real question here is: how casual is casual Friday? After going through the first eight results pages of “Casual Friday” search on Google (I know, it’s a lot! ), I was not able to find one single result saying that you should relax and go in with your gym clothes to work. Au contraire , almost all the results emphasise on standing out by taking your attire a nudge up on casual Fridays. You can be neat and tidy when it comes to personal hygiene and clothing because you like the way you look or because it’s your choice but a different thing is being discriminated against just because your employer does not like how you look (may be your beard, your head covering or your conservative outfits). One of the biggest prides of Canada is the diversity of its population. Why are looks SOOO important as a non-verbal way of communicating everywhere, including the workplace?

Welcome to my blog, in this space I will share with you some of the most important information about physical appearance, attires and workplace fashion. First of all, it is very important to understand that the way you look tells much more about you than you may imagine. Looks are important from little things, such as who to approach to in a party, to whether you should get that promotion you have been craving for months. People usually takes between two to 10 seconds to form an opinion on anything, mostly based on appearance. According to Tanja Lewis , people can judge other’s people health, personality and professionalism by personal appearance, therefore a very good first impression is invaluable. Usually, employees interact with customers and the looks, behaviour and communication of the employees often reflects the company image. This is why employers prefer staff with a high sense of personal hygiene and who keep a professional appearance at all times. The follow
